A registry, in computer terms, is where all your program information is stored. It is a vital part of your computer, and without it, your computer would simply not work.

The problem with computer registries is that when they are in virgin condition, as installed by the factory where your computer was assembled and the operating system was installed, they are absolutely perfect; but as you boot your computer up and begin to use it, the registry begins to become contaminated.

It is regrettably, unavoidable.

The more you use your computer, the more contaminated it becomes, and as this contamination worsens, your computer's performance begins to deteriorate and slow down. When this happens it means that every time you boot up again, your computer has to spend longer and longer trying to locate the right pieces of information that it needs, and this manifests itself as your machine slowing down. Each time you go onto the internet there are external factors to be considered too. Even with firewalls and anti-virus software, some of these external factors find their way through and can affect the integrity of your computer's registry, especially when you download emails with attachments and new programs. This of course makes the contamination even worse. Left unaddressed and unattended, your registry will continue to deteriorate until you experience severe slowing and crashing.

However, if you know how to do it, you can repair the registry yourself, and run a defragmentation tool from time to time. But anything to do with your computer's registry is best left to those who know exactly what they're doing. It's all too easy for the uninitiated to remove a wrong bit of programming in error that may result in the computer refusing to boot up at all.

However, all is not lost. There are a number of registry repair programs that you can buy online and download. They are designed especially with newbies, or non-techies in mind. In fact even a lot of techies use them because they are so simple and fast, and it saves them time that they can utilize doing other important things.

These repair programs are pretty well foolproof, so even the greenest newbie is quite safe in using them. They can be programmed to run each time you start your computer, or close it down, or at regular intervals if you so prefer.

Either way you will find that once installed and run at regular intervals, you operating speed will get back to something like it was when you first purchased your machine. They're an essential piece of kit to have, in order to keep your computer's performance optimized.
